“I do it because it teaches me team building, and presents a fair challenge for me. Plus winning is great”-Austin Wolcott

While the team has a good record and wrestlers with amazing spirit, there were downfalls last season, but things are looking up. Mr. King said that some of the changes they’ve made will help strengthen the team, and help the wrestlers perform better. “We’ve changed the dates of matches. We tried to make more of them on weekends and not during the week, so they’re not dragged down by school work that day. We also changed the line-up so the competition might be better for individual wrestlers”, he said. Sheridan’s wrestling team has its first match at the Cambridge Invitational on December 3rd at 9:00 a.m. The season will conclude in February, with the MVL finals on February 18th 2017. Wrestling teaches you many valuable skills that last a lifetime, and many of the players could agree with that too. The seniors are hoping for a victorious last season. For some it’s their first year wrestling and a chance to make their senior year something memorable, for others it’s just another season of a sport they love. The seniors all have different plans after high school: Michael Hutton is going into the Army in May, and Austin Wolcott is planning to attend the Fire Academy at Hocking College. No matter where the seniors find themselves after they graduate, or in a year or two, they’ll always have the fun memories and valuable skills learned from wrestling. Also, who could forget all the important things Mr. King has taught them along the way?

The wrestling team does a lot to try and do good for the school. They try harder every day, striving to make each other better. Mr. King helps a lot in that, pushing each wrestler more and more. He’s been the head coach of the wrestling team for 12 years. “That’s the great part about being a coach.” said Mr.King. “Seeing the kids develop, it’s an amazing thing to watch.” He believes there is room for improvement within the team and wants the wrestlers to learn from their wins and losses to make the team better.
