The Fall of Tekashi 6ix9ine

The Fall of Tekashi 6ix9ine

Daniel Hernandez, more commonly known as Tekashi 6ix9ine, might be one of the most hated people in the world, with each song he releases being more vulgar and inappropriate than the last. At only 24 years of age, Daniel Hernandez has written and released 14 songs on 2 albums and 10 songs as a featured artist. Hernandez’s most recent song is titled TROLLZ, featuring Nikki Minaj. It was released 2 months ago and already has over 200 million views and counting. The rapper did release a “comeback” song when he was released from prison titled GOOBA, and it became the most watched hip-hop video on YouTube in a 24 hour period, with over 279 million, and counting, views. On the 8th of May, 2020, an estimated 43 million people tuned into a livestream on Instagram showing Hernandez from an undisclosed location while on house arrest. Flashing his ankle bracelet and grinning like a smug “word”. It was a risky step streaming like that considering the fact that Hernandez was fresh out of prison after an astonishing legal case that saw the rapper offer authorities inside information regarding a “famous” New York Gang.

“6ix9ine had been building momentum for what that moment would be.” says Kathy Landoli, a New Jersey-based hip hop writer whose recent book was published by Harper Collins last year. “So much of that is the story element around him. Because social media plays into that so much, the entire scenario reads like a continuous Twitter thread. You’re always tuned in even when the music isn’t there.”

Tekashi 6ix9ine is a “musical” artist so steeped in controversy and transgression that strictly is terms of the new cycle, his more recent activity has risen the child sex charge he faced in 2015. Hernandez admitted to appearing, and posting on his instagram, a video of sexual nature involving a 13- year old girl. Stating “I thought she was older.” This past November, the rapper was arrested in his New York habitat on counts of firearms, racketeering, and involvement in the Nine Trey Gansta Bloods gang. Also counts of armed robbery, drug trafficking, and conspiracy to commit murder.

Daniel Hernandez is nothing short of a complete and total disappointment to the music industry, which I could say that about a lot of artists today. From start to finish, Tekashi 6ix9ine has faced controversy and transgression. The stupidity spewing from his mouth, his music, his videos, and his life are mistakes this world has had to deal with. All because he wanted the “fame” and “fortune”, but what he got was jail time and enemies. Good night and thank you for coming to my ted talk.
