The new Netflix movie Bird Box was released on December 13th of 2018 and it quickly took over social media. Even before the 13th, Twitter was stormed with people’s excitement to watch the new movie starring Sandra Bullock. The trailer was posted on all social media platforms drawing in more and more people by its creepy yet intriguing story. Of course, everyone was expecting it to be a great movie. But for some, expectations were not met.

To really see how the movie held up, I asked a few people what they thought of the movie and how it compared to what they were expecting:

Senior Michael Jordan has recently watched Bird Box and was fairly delighted by it. He told me, “the storyline was well put together and had a good, fast pace.” When discussing the actors chosen for the movie, Michael also added, “Sandra Bullock got it done.” Although he gave all positive feedback, when asked if he thought it lived up to the hype, he still had to say no.

Junior Wesley Richesson chimed in and said, “I overall enjoyed the movie but the ending just wasn’t right.” He is now hoping for a sequel to the movie in order to tie up those loose ends.

In comparison to both Michael and Wesley, who overall enjoyed the movie, I also spoke with Junior Jaiden Palumbo, who did not like Bird Box at all. She told me that the story was hard for her to follow due to the fact that “the movie scared me pretty bad. The thought of the demon possibly being real was too much.” When asked for her opinion of it living up to the hype, she, of course, said no. This so far has seemed to be the recurring answer.

In my opinion, the movie was decent. Some parts of the movie had a fast plot that really caught my interest, but there were also long parts that were slower and hard to stay focused on. So of course, I personally did not think it lived up to the hype.

I still encourage you to get out and watch the movie to find out for yourself if it lived up to the hype. Everyone at The General Idea would love to hear your thoughts on the movie. After watching it, vote on our poll and let us know.
